St Nicholas Church of England Primary School

Our Values

Our school have six core Christian values which become our themes for acts of worship, celebrations of achievement and our learning throughout the year. Every half-term, we focus on one of our Christian values.

Hope - Humility - Endurance - Friendship -Compassion - Courage

Autumn 2  - Humility

This half-term we will be looking at the Christian Value of Humility.

The value Humility is about trying to think of others before you think about yourself.  We should try to encourage and praise people when they have done very well or tried very hard. We should listen carefully to others and value their opinions. We should ask for help rather than thinking we always know how to do it.

Jesus taught people about humility through the different stories he told. The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14). In this parable, a and a tax collector went to the temple to pray. The Pharisee prayed about how good he was, but the tax collector asked for God’s mercy as he was a sinner. Jesus said that it was the tax collector who went home justified before God. He concluded, “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The Bible has many sayings about Humility:

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2)

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (James 4:10)

Act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

Our Values from previous half terms this school year:

Autumn 1  - Hope

This half-term we will be looking at the Christian Value of Hope.

The value Hope is about much more than just wishing as hard as we can that things will be different. It is about believing that the world can be better and being prepared to do something!

Hope is a shining candle.  When everything is dark around us, it can help us see the light ahead.

Hope is not a wish for ourselves but a belief that someone or something is there to help. If there was no hope, life’s desires and dreams would never become a reality.

If Jesus had lost hope in us, the world we now live in would be full of hate and disbelief. When He died on the Cross then rose again, he showed us that faith and hope can overcome the darkest of times.

Like Jesus taught us, we can spread hope. With love and faith in our hearts we can light other people’s candles and will never be in darkness.

The Bible has many sayings about Hope:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.(Psalm 31:24)
